John Marshall Pre-Law Society

The John Marshall Pre-Law Society (JMPLS) is an official UT Dallas pre-law organization that promotes understanding of the law, helps members enter the legal profession, and encourages scholarship and leadership.  

JMPLS holds monthly events that provide information on the law school application process, opportunities for networking with legal professionals, and guidance on how to best prepare for a career in law.

Joann Aricat, President of John Marshall Pre-Law Society 

Joann Aricat is a sophomore Political Science major with a minor in Business Administration. Joann previously served on the executive board for JMPLS as Digital Presence Chair before stepping into her role as President. She is also a member of the nationally ranked Mock Trial team. In her spare time, she enjoys watching soccer, listening to music, and traveling around the world. She is very committed to JMPLS and is working hard to organize impactful events that create lasting experiences for all members!

Women Pursuing Law

Women Pursuing Law (WPL) aims to provide resources specifically geared toward empowering women in law, politics, and social justice. In an industry where women face unique obstacles, such as gender inequality, WPL will be a source of information, education, and inspiration to help future female leaders confidently enter the field.  

WPL offers various programs and services, including mentoring, networking, professional development, and advocacy. Joining WPL is an excellent way for women to connect with other women in the legal profession, gain access to valuable resources, and gain the support and guidance needed to succeed in the field.

Roma Patel, President of Women Pursuing Law  

Roma Patel is the president of Women Pursuing Law. In school, she’s a junior majoring in Economics with a minor in Mathematics; In her free time, she enjoys reading, cooking, and playing basketball. She encourages everyone to attend a WPL event this semester!

National Black Law Students Association (NBLSA)

The National Black Law Students Association (NBLSA) at UT Dallas is a pre-law organization dedicated to empowering students pursuing legal careers. We provide resources on law school applications, networking opportunities with legal professionals, and mentorship to support academic and professional success. Through events, workshops, and collaborations, NBLSA fosters a community committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the legal field. NBLSA is open to all students, and everyone is welcome to join.

Emmanuella Jaja, President of NBLSA

Emmanuella Jaja is a Political Science major with a minor in Criminology. She is the President of the National Black Law Students Association and a Spring ‘25 fellow for UTD’s Initiative for Civic Leadership Fellowship. Emmanuella has interned at the Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office and Catholic Charities & Immigration Legal Services. She also serves as Outreach Director for the Undergraduate Law Review. In her free time, she enjoys romance K-dramas, baking, and watching reality TV. She is excited to continue expanding NBLSA’s impact this semester!
