About the Center

The Pre-Law Advising Center is part of the UT Dallas Office of Undergraduate Education. The Center provides a comprehensive range of services and programs designed to support pre-law students at every stage of the application process. We offer a variety of workshops, events and programs on relevant topics, as well as guest speakers from diverse areas of the legal profession.

Although “pre-law” is not an officially-recognized major and the Center cannot help with degree planning or course registration, we offer a range of opportunities for students to gain valuable experience and build their skill set. These include, but are not limited to the Innocence Project Seminar, student advocacy teams, student organizations and LSAT preparation courses

In addition to these resources, the Center also offers personalized support through individual counseling sessions. These sessions allow students to discuss their unique needs and goals with a knowledgeable advisor and receive tailored advice and guidance.

For more information on the services and opportunities offered by the Pre-Law Advising Center, we encourage students to schedule an appointment or contact us directly.

Mission

The mission of the Pre-Law Advising Center is to help students make informed decisions about their preparation for law school and a legal career. The Center delivers high-quality advising services, programs, workshops, academic resources and events to all current UT Dallas students, alums and members of the Comet Connection program.

Vision

We are committed to upholding professional and conceptual best practices in advising, as reflected in our mission and association with the Pre-Law Advisors National Council (PLANC).

We are committed to upholding PLANC’s vision to create “an informed, inclusive, and supportive network of college and university pre-law advisors while promoting collaboration, ideation, and best practices by the regional associations of pre-law advisors.”

History

The Pre-Law Advising Center at UT Dallas has a history of providing guidance and support to students interested in pursuing a law degree. Dr. Anthony Champagne, a professor of government and politics at UT Dallas’ School of Economic, Political, and Policy Sciences, established the Pre-Law Advising and Resource Center in 2001. Under his direction, the program quickly developed a reputation for developing well-prepared, highly motivated, and academically strong students. Later renamed, the Pre-Law Advising Center has a proven record of success, with many of its alums being admitted to top-ranked law schools across the country, such as Yale, Columbia, University of Chicago, UC Berkeley, UT Austin and Southern Methodist University.

All top 10 law schools in the United States have admitted students from UT Dallas, and the Center boasts an impressive 80% acceptance rate into law schools nationwide.
